Artistic Practice

Since childhood I have always had a passion for painting and drawing and then for the past ten years for ceramics. Drawing and painting is at the essence of all my work, and is part of the process of making. I have recently returned to my love of printmaking which began as a student in Ambleside when I created large lino prints based on the Cumbrian Landscape

My work is inspired by the drama and colour of the Lakeland hills and Morecombe Bay Estuary in which I live, it’s ever changing weather and it’s moods. I use various mark making and printing techniques to add detail and information about the texture and pattern. Each piece is individual, although I sometimes make a series of pieces on the same theme, or return to an idea, interpreting it differently.

I am an artist/teacher with 23 years experience of managing the art curriculum and related art projects from Foundation Stage to upper Key Stage 2.  My work in schools for the past three years has been largely print based , working with children to create mono and collage prints based on their experience and observation of the natural world.
